Thank you!
Hey, thanks for raising your objection! The Livestock and Livestock Products [Importation and Exportation] Bill, 2023 has been withdrawn!

Why we raised the objection:
This bill was proposed by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to increase India’s ability to export live animals to other parts of the world. This was very concerning since animals, of all kinds, must endure filthy, inhumane, and insufferable conditions before being exported to other places; just so they could be slaughtered in accordance with customs and laws of another country. The government also intended to develop its ability to export live animals, which meant that more animals were going to be bred for the purpose of consumption.
India is the land of non-violence, and it’s inconsistent for it to be the source of suffering and slaughter of any kind of animal.
What led to the withdrawal of the bill:
This bill came to the attention of the public more than a week after it was quietly published on the https://dahd.nic.in website. By that time, there were only 2-3 days left for the public feedback deadline. In that urgent situation, a movement arose within just a few hours to protest against this bill. Hundreds of thousands of people were inspired to raise their voices in unison – they sent emails to the authorities, created and shared videos, visited representatives in person, and protested on the streets.
What's next:
Live animals are still being exported abroad due to a concurrent law. They are also transported live from one state to another for the purpose of slaughter. Regardless of the transportation method, the act of slaughter is still full of suffering for the animals. Therefore, we must stay united in our cause for those who can feel pain and continue raising our voice. Although the bill has been withdrawn, animals are still treated as commodities. Let’s maintain our effort because when individual action becomes collective action, it creates a movement.
